Confidence Live is about laughing, being yourself and growing. It is not about being a dick.

You’re part of building a supportive and safe environment that allows everyone to participate and flourish.

To make this a fun, welcoming and transformative experience we’ve laid out what we expect from everyone.

Anyone behaving inappropriately may be sanctioned or expelled from the event (without a refund). We take all reports of unwelcome behaviour seriously and anyone violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the event (without a refund).

Code of Conduct

What behaviour is inappropriate?

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Verbal or online comments that reinforce social structures of domination such as those relating to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age, religion

  • Sexual images in public spaces

  • Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following

  • Harassing photography or recording

  • Sustained disruption of talks or other events

  • Inappropriate physical contact

  • Unwelcome sexual attention

  • Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behaviour

How do I report inappropriate behaviour?

If someone makes you or anyone else feel unsafe or unwelcome, please report it as soon as possible to a member of the event team in-person (they’re the ones in jazzy Confidence Live t-shirts), via Twitter DM to @confidence_live or via email to confidence@roar.training.

We take all reports seriously and aim to handle them sensitively. You can make an anonymous report if you wish (though this may limit how we can respond).

What happens when an incident is reported?

We might involve other members of the event team, venue staff or emergency services if needed to ensure people’s safety or manage your report properly but will endeavour to be discreet about your complaint.

A member of the team will ask you about what happened and if necessary we’ll gather more information from others to help us understand the situation.

What will happen after a complaint?

Participants asked to stop any inappropriate behaviour are expected to comply immediately

Event organisers retain the right to take any actions to keep the event a welcoming environment for all participants. This includes warning the offender or expulsion from the event with no refund.

We expect participants to follow these rules at all event venues and event-related social activities. We think people should follow these rules outside our activities too!

This policy is based on the example policy from the Geek Feminism wiki, created by the Ada Initiative and other volunteers.
